Hello,
I'm Taniguchi and in the second year of master course, but this blog is first time for me. :(

We (Kawasaki(B4), Taniguchi(M2), Prof. Fukusaki, Nakano(D1), Hayashi(M1)) went to Kikumasamune (Japanese sake company in Nada city, Kyoto) to see the brewery and sensory evaluation room.

First, we change our clothes to lab coats and saw the various fermentation equipment and aging tank following the manufacturing process. We could listened kind explanation about the details of each process.

Then, tasting samples were provided!

Next, we tried the sensory evaluation.

6 kinds of sake samples were provided. Among of them, 3 samples were Kimoto, and other 3 were different type. However, I couldn't distinguish two types of sake... If there were no tasting samples, it might be possible! In the sensory evaluation, I already might get a little drunk. :-P

We were able to see various things such as the barrel manufacture, analytical machines and the view of Mt. Rokko from the roof. We had a very nice time.

On Oct 24, Dr Lee Chang-Muk and his colleagues visited our labo.

He is driving a metabolomics research group in National Institute of Agricultural Science, Rural Development Admission, Korea.   They enjoy a discussion on metabolomics application and labo tour.  The tour was organized by my students, Mega, Emi, Moyu, Anja.

Workshop on scientific writing

スマトラ島のペカンバルというところに来ました。
今日はWCPのアクティビティーとしてScientific Writingの
1Day workshopで５時間ほど講義をしてきました。
5時間は
長い！ 
Scientific writingとは言っても午前中は自分の生い立ちというか
過去の研究についての紹介。それなりには興味を持ってもらえたか？
午後はScientific Writingの話。自分は論文書くのが上手くないくせに
申し訳ない感じだが、reviewerとしての視点を説明してあげたら
結構納得してくれた気がする。
てか、この講義はラボでも、学科内でもやったほうがいいだろと思う。
 
明日はメタボロミクスとイメージングMSの話を５時間してきます。
こういうのは結構恥ずかしい。。。午前バージョン。

福崎研でだいぶ理解しているつもりだが、
やはり女子が多かった。明日も頑張る。

Stay in Indonesia

Now, I'm staying in Bogor, Indonesia.
Thank you very much for invitation.

Today, I visited IPB and met vice rector of IPB.



Good collaboration has started via this project.
After meeting, we visited herb garden for Jamu.





Lunch and our desk in department.


I will visit Riau tomorrow and stay until Saturday.

New member list

From Oct, new international students joined our lab.
Now we have 39 students (except for company students).
Probably biggest lab in Osaka Univ.

Graduation ceremony for foreign students

On Sep 25, we had a graduation ceremony for foreign students.
In Fukusaki-lab, An-san (PhD), Wisman-san (MC) and Moke-san (MC)
graduated from our course. Wisman and Moke continuously enrolled
doctor course. An-san was back to Vietnam for her next stage.
Congrats everyone!!



 

Batik day!

Anja told us Oct 2nd is the Batik (traditional Indonesian clothing) Day.
In addition, we had two guests from Indonesia today, so we all wore
Batik to welcome them!

With Danan-san (one of alumni in Fukusaki-lab),
guest and Indonesian students.

Unfortunately, Fitri was not here to go to city hall.
From Oct, we have new international students,
five from Indonesia and one from Malaysia.
And now we have 11 Indonesian in Fukusaki-lab.
